right before leal flipped and then fell off the initial prototypeas rene magrittttte said this past tuesday "the only thing behind the piece is the wall and we talk and we talk until our heads explode". and thus we have waited until this now to upload actual images of the 'thing' project because:
1) we have been way too embararrased
2) we wanted to be sure it would be too late for anyone to nab our idea/s. should anyone be insane enuff to do so, we will know....

The Osage Flyer hits the streets

The first ArtCycle, created by Columbia artist Thom Smith, hit the road yesterday complete with rider, streaming feathers and multiple adornments. ArtCycles Progress

Check back for photos of the ArtCycles in their stages of creation. You'll be dazzled!

At this year's Golden Jubilee Art in the Park in Columbia, Missouri, art and cycling are going tandem, with a new art project called ArtCycle: a competitive art project with a $1000 top prize. ArtCycles are defined as working bicycles transformed into works of art. The bicycles should still be rideable, have anywhere from 1 to 3 wheels, and be weatherproof, other than that, the only bounds are each artist's creativity. Alongside the competitively entered ArtCycles, ten local artists have been commissioned to create their own ArtCycles, which will all be launched at Columbia's Bike Walk & Wheel Week from 3-10 May. The ten commissioned ArtCycles and the winners from the ArtCycle competition will all be placed around the city to create a public art project through the summer.

The Art in the Park Opening Parade will take place on Saturday 7th June and will feature the ten commissioned ArtCycles plus the fantabulous creations of 8 riders from St Louis' Banana Bike Brigade. Anyone interested in submitting an ArtCycle and riding in the opening parade on 7th June, should download the ArtCycle entry form. There is no cost to enter an ArtCycle either in the competition or the parade. ArtCycle entries should be emailed to artleague@centurytel.net before Friday 30th May.

The ArtCycle award ceremony will take place at midday on Sunday 8th June at Stephens Lake Park. Besides the 1st prize award in both adult and junior (under 18) categories, there will also be 2nd and 3rd prizes plus a Mayor's Choice award, given by Columbia's civic cycling supremo, Mayor Darwin Hindman, and a People's Choice award. Collaborative ArtCycles may also be entered, and school team entries are encouraged.
